Marathon Beer Stop 2007

Sunday 10/7/2007 8:00am
Chicago Marathon Beer Stop with the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation Marathon Team
Hare(s): Ballsalotopus
Venue: LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon Mile 23.5

Hello everyone,

I hope you all had a great summer! As you are probably aware, the Chicago Marathon is coming up fast. And so is the debut of our own “Team CPD Memorial”, led by Captain Rhonda Anderson. Rhonda has been working very hard to make this Marathon voyage memorable, not only for the team members, but for the spectators along the course as well.

And to make this happen, we can use a hand in a couple of areas:

1. We have established a “Cheering Section” at Michigan Avenue and 32nd Street. This is located approximately 23.5 miles into the race. We need enthusiastic cheerleaders to throw all of their energy and encouragement into all of the marathon runners in the name of the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation – and particularly to the members of Team CPD Memorial – as they pass by…….

2. Charity Village (at the Marathon Finish Area): We need people to assist with the set-up and operation of the post-race party for Team CPD Memorial in the Marathon Charity Village. We will have food, drinks, music, and more. The party needs to be set-up as the marathon is in progress, and be ready for the runners as they finish. This will be one of the best post-race bashes in the Village – that’s for sure…..

Please write back and let us know if you are available, and where you would like to help. It will be an early morning, so get to bed early the night before. It will be fun!

Both spots will be handing out the CH3’s favorite beverage much like we did at the May CPD run to Remember event. So come on out and support the marathon and enjoy a little Gold and Cold refreshment.

Thank you and regards,

Ballsalotopus (Tom Hepperle)

First Annual Sheffield Garden Crawl To Benefit The Chicago Police
Memorial Foundation

Well the Cubs are in town this year for our big party weekend, so
what would have been the 4th Annual Ten Innings at Wrigley pub crawl
is headed south to the dodgy Lincoln Park ‘hood. Since the Sheffield
Garden Walk is going on that weekend, we decided to follow with the
First Annual Sheffield Garden Crawl.

New name but same high-quality event as our 12 Bars of Christmas and
even though we’re in Lincoln Park to keep it interesting, there will
be almost no overlap with our traditional 12 bars route as we will
start in the heart of Garden Walk territory at Kelly’s Pub at
Sheffield and Webster.

New this year we are doing a charity fundraiser for the Chicago
Police Memorial Foundation which helps out the families of officers
who gave their lives in the line of duty (www.cpdmemorial.org).

To this end we’re asking a $5 donation for wristbands which entitles
you to drink specials at every bar (and there will be at least 10 of
them on the route so you’ll get you’re money’s worth – trust us!).
100% of your $5 will go to the CPD Memorial Foundation as the
Chicago PPC and Hash House Harriers are absorbing the costs of
running the event itself.

Feel free to invite as many friends as you like as this is
our “Summer 12 Bars of Christmas”. Hope to see you there!

1st Annual Sheffield Garden Crawl
to Benefit the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation
Friday, July 20
Starts at 6:00pm – Kelly’s Pub – 949 W. Webster (Webster & Sheffield)

Ending bar will be The Union – 2858 N. Halsted

Run to Remember 2007

WE NEED YOU!!!!

Who: Calling All Hashers!

What: Run to Remember 5K – Beverage Station

When: Saturday, May 5th, 2007. Report at 6:00 a.m. (okay, I’ll accept hash time from some of you …..), but the Race starts at 8:00 a.m., and it’s only a 5K. The first runners will reach us about 7 1/2 or 8 minutes after the gun. So we have to be ready, and have enough liquid refreshment poured for up to 2,500 participants.

Where: First, go to Gold Star Families Memorial & Park, immediately east of Soldier Field. Parking will be free at the Soldier Field Waldron Deck (i.e. the parking structure just south of Soldier Field). Report to the Volunteer Check-in Tent. Get checked in, and get your volunteer t-shirt (a keepsake you will treasure for years to come….) Stash your volunteer t-shirt somewhere, and put on your hash shirts.

From there you will go to Monroe Harbor, at (duh) Monroe Street). We will set up just south of the Yacht Club. where the runners will pass us heading south on the concrete path along the water.

Why: Because the Cops love us (for some reason….).

Start your Cinco de Mayo off right – with Cervesa! We need a few able-bodied men and women to help the hashers who have already signed up Since I can’t find any, I’m asking for more hashers….. We will pour Smart Water and ….. “smarter water”….. to serve the runners and protect them from de-hydration. Yes, that’s our job – “to serve and protect”….

This is a great opportunity to promote the Hash to the men and women in blue, and let them know that “we aren’t all that bad, either”… (Thanks, Mount Me….)

Really, the cops love us and really want us there. They consider us part of the event…..

Let me know that you will join us at:

Marathon Beer Stop 2005

Hashers:
The Chicago Marathon is on Oct. 9 this year. For almost ten years I have been going out around mile 23 and handing out beer to hashers as they ran by. Over the last several years we really expanded until we gave away three kegs of Goose Island beer two years ago. That was about 1800 cups of beer or about 5% of the Marathoners got a taste as they ran by. That was outstanding. Then last year we got busted by the cops. We got out there a little to soon and the last cop cruising the scene saw us and reported us. Of course we shut down right away, and we never even tapped a keg.
That brings us to this year. Do we do anything? What do we do? I was suggesting that we each bring out our own donations (sixers or a case) and some cups and keep all of our beer hidden in back packs or bags or whatever we have to do to keep it low key and hidden. That we can coordinate later.
Then Peterbilt passed on some information about Pabst Blue Ribbon maybe wanting to do something with the hash. So I called this person and established contact. I explained our history with the Marathon and suggested that they might want to donate ten cases or so. They have liability concerns, so their donation is to us and what we do with it is our business. We have no problem with that. She also suggested that we at least let the Marathoners know what they are getting. I suggested that we carry a can and several cups and pour it right there so they can see the can. Shouldn’t be a problem. They will get back to us later if they want to do that idea.
They also suggested that they work with us through bars were they would negotiate a price for us. They could do it with the small Moon hashes or large Chicago or Thirstday hashes. Sounds good. I did specify that I would want this for all of the area hashes and I was not jumping in first with the Moon Hashes. Who knows. Maybe a different hash each month in different locations that serve Pabst. But we GMs need to get together on this and what we can do for the area hashes.
I made a preliminary venture that I specified would be separate from anything else that might me done, because the Marathon is only 30 days away and the time is clicking down. I specified that this should in no way interfere in any other future discussions with all of the hashes.

In the interval, direct your Marathon ideas to me, including getting some Pabst beer to give out, or what to do if they decide they don’t want to do the Marathon.

Direct your ideas about Pabst future considerations to your GMs.

Meanwhile, we GMs need to get together over the next week or so and see what we collectively would want and separately want as far as Pabst is concerned. Perhaps even a generic shirt something like “Chicago Area Hashes get pissed on PBR.”
This would also make a good discussion for [email protected].

Run to Remember Beer Stop 2005

SPECIAL EVENT – GM NOTES

SPECIAL EVENT

Hey Gang –

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!! And support one of our very own hashers, Mount Me Puh-leeze!

We’ve got a really important hash-related event coming up on Saturday, April 30th. The Chicago Police Department is holding their inaugural “Run to Remember” that morning on behalf of those Chicago police officers who have died protecting us and our city.

Info. and registration; www.cpdmemorial.org/run.htm

It is important that we have a large hasher turn out for this!!!!! We need you both as participants in the race and as volunteers!!!! Obviously, the more hasher presence we have that morning, the better “in” we will have with CPD, and the better chance we have later in getting beer to marathon beer stops, etc. etc. etc.

Ballsalotapus has done a wonderful job in opening communication up with the race director/coordinator Rhonda who, while she couldn’t actually get us beer along the route, is working to have some type of on-after with beer! (note that this was not in the plans ’til Balls got involved!)

Rover (Water Stop God) and I will be coordinating an AID Station for this event, so stay tuned to get involved!

Again, if you don’t want to participate as a racist, then PLEASE PLEASE help out with the AID Station!

Thanks! And ON-ON to good relations with the CPD!!!

Too Loose

Volunteer Opportunity at the Run to Remember by Bend Over Rover

GREETINGS CHICAGO HASHERS!!!

Please send me an email at [email protected] if you would like to volunteer for the aid station (or in another way) at the Run to Remember.

(We had about five people express an interest on Sunday, the MORE THE MERRIER!!)

A little info:

When: Saturday, 30 April 2004,
Where: near Soldier Field,
Time: volunteer start time will probably be around 7:00am, Race starts at 8:35

Website: http://www.cpdmemorial.org/run.htm

The Hash House Harriers are being given an aid station and there will be a FREE BEER PARTY for the volunteers following the race. The water stop will be very easy to manage because there is only water and there are two of them.

Please let me know if you want to help, there is a lot of win/win situations that could come of this in the terms of recruiting, would not be bad to have some more police officers on the hash. Please show your support to the men and women that protect your freedoms.

Cheers and OnOn!!
